SUGAR BEACH
One of the projects in the redevelopment of Toronto’s waterfront at Chorus Quay, Sugar Beach is another area I like to visit often. I actually prefer this place in winter when the white snow looks like the sugar from the Redpath Sugar Refinery where the man-made beach gets its name.
Like many of Toronto’s redevelopment projects, people weren’t happy. This one came under fire for the staggering cost of the pretty pink umbrellas – over $11,000 each.
That may seem pricey, but this previously unused industrial area has become a popular destination for locals and visitors alike and is part of a new vitality along the Toronto harbour. The adjacent Corus Quay is home to Corus Entertainment, a media and broadcasting company, as well as the waterfront campus of George Brown College.
